Your rights

No Surprises Act & Good Faith Estimates.

Under federal law, you have the right to know what your care will cost before you receive it.

Under the No Surprises Act (effective January 1, 2022), health care providers must give clients who are uninsured or not using insurance a Good Faith Estimate of expected charges before services are delivered.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency services, including psychotherapy and psychological testing. You can ask for one before you schedule a service, or at any time during care.

If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.

Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or more information, visit cms.gov/nosurprises or call 1-800-985-3059.
